Chinese reading teaching has long been censured. People have been appealing for it called that to improve the learning methods of the students. It has also been clearly pointed that we should enable the students to shift their learning methods from a singly receptive way to a comprehensively receptive, experiencing and investigative way in "the Chinese curriculum criterion of the elementary schools and high schools in Shanghai". In the first chapter of this subject, I have anatomized the present situation of Chinese reading teaching and have raised the thesis that we should introduce investigative study into the Chinese reading teaching in senior high schools; in the second chapter, I have revealed two pairs of contradiction influencing the development of investigative study in the Chinese reading teaching; in the third chapter, I have analyzed the advantages in developing investigative study provided by the second reform of curriculum criterion in Shanghai . In the fourth chapter of this subject, I have brought forth that the basic reading ability and the constituting of the character of investigative reading are the orientation of the fostering of the ability of investigative study in the reading teaching; in the fifth chapter, I have described the basic pattern of fostering the ability of investigative study and have put forward that reading interests, reading methods and reading habit are the important causes affecting the establishment of the ability; in the sixth chapter, I have introduced the exploration of investigative study in the practice of reading teaching in the aspects of question senses in class, the normal and changing pattern of the style and the expansion of the research of the subject. In the seventh chapter of this subject, I have dialectically analyzed the relationship between investigative study and reading criterion; in the eighth chapter, I have raised the problem of how to evaluate investigative study in the reading teaching. Absorbing the related advanced idea and mainly utilizing the methods of field research, classroom experiments and case study, the subject has reflected the great combination between the reform of class teaching and the idea of modern education. The establishment of investigative study in Chinese reading teaching is bound to bring about profound changes in the Chinese reading teaching and the students'learning methods.
