As the emergence of the Information Age, people throughout the world arepaying more and more attention to the new concept, Information Literacy and tryingto make it an important criterion in the evaluation of a person's talents. In 2000, theMinistry of Education issued the Notice on Popularizing Information TechnologyEducation in Primary School and Middle School, which popularized informationtechnology education in primary school and middle school and aimed to improve theinformation literacy of the whole nation. The ultimate goal is to cultivate and improvethe information literacy of students in order to build up their various abilities (such asthe abilities of life, of learning, of development etc.) These abilities can adaptthemselves to the changeable society better. In February, 2001, the Ministry ofEducation issued the Notice on Popularizing Information Technology Education inPrimary School and Middle School and the Directive compendium for InformationTechnology Subject. In the notice, China would spend 5-10 years (from 2001) on thepopularization of information technology education in primary school and middleschool and determined to realize the rapid development of the national primaryeducation by promoting the modernization of education with information. In view ofthese, the new object of education in the 21st century is to popularize informationtechnology education whose core goal is to cultivate and improve the students'information literacy, which could finally be a kind of ability as basic as reading,writing and calculating.Since primary middle school is the period in which student develops theinformation literacy, we certainly should well carry out the information literacyeducation. As time goes on, whole society is drawing more and more attention to thediscussion on information literacy.Unfortunately, we are lack of comprehensive and scientific study of theinformation literacy education among students at present and are vague about theobject of the information technology education. What's more, there have not beenenough necessary theories yet. All of these elements have held up the improvement ofinformation education and the development of students' information literacy. Thusstudents showered by this education turned out to be unable to adapt themselves to therequirements of new century science and the development of society. To solve theseproblems, the author intends to put forward her opinions on how to cultivate students'information literacy in information technology class of primary middle school.Based on the study and analysis of many domestic and foreign documents, thispaper elaborates the content of students' information literacy and the way to cultivateit in Information Age. The paper consists of four parts: The first part is theintroduction. This part illustrates the background of the problem from two aspects: theimportance of information literacy and the current condition of domestic and foreigninformation technology education. The second part summarizes the informationtechnology education and information literacy from four aspects: the summary ofinformation technology education, the summary of information literacy, curricula ofinformation technology subject, cultivation of information literacy, the level ofinformation literacy for primary middle school students. The third part states how tocultivate the information literacy in information technology education based on thecurrent problems and teaching methods. The last part illustrates some teaching casesof information literacy education which belongs to practical study.
