Modern Distance Education Online Media Educational Goals To Achieve The Impact Of Empirical Research

Distance education has been developing very fast in the past decade in both China and the rest of the world. With the increasing usage of internet, study through internet has become a major method for people learning through distance education. Since self-learning is a major character of distance education, providing proper internet-based teaching media is the key point to guarantee the quality of the study through internet. Internet-based teaching media is a combination of knowledge taught and media. Internet-based teaching media consisting of different media and different teaching objectives affect differently the results and efficiency of study through internet. This thesis employs on-field study and empirical research method to investigate the influence of the fit between internet-based media and teaching objectives on the results and efficiency of study through internet.This thesis, firstly, defines the teaching objectives and media and makes an overview of relevant studies by other researchers. Then, research hypothesis and research model based on task-technology fit theory, media theory and research results of choosing internet media are presented. The research of this thesis includes questionnaires and laboratory experiments (text and video). The empirical analysis of the questionnaires and experiment results shows that, for the teaching objectives of remembering and understanding, text and video have no significant difference in influencing study results, while for the teaching objectives of applying, video has significant advantage over text in bringing better study results. For remembering and understanding, study through text is more efficient, i.e. time-saving, than study through video, while for applying, study through video is more efficient than study through text. At the end of the thesis, the research results of the thesis are discussed.
