College student affairs management plays an important part in college teaching and education and meanwhile it is an issue full of theoretical and practical significances. Since the reinstitution of the college entrance examination in 1978, China's higher education has been truly on the track of sustainable development. In the past thirty years, institutions of higher education in China have always adhered to the education policy issued by the country and Chinese Communist Party and centered on the target of talents cultivation, meanwhile, they have adjusted working concepts and enhanced working methods in the college student affairs management ceaselessly, and made positive explorations on the reforms of college student affairs management. Over the years, the research on college student affairs management has been mainly confined to the domains of ideological and political education and advanced educational studies. In recent years, some disciplines such as psychology and sociology have expanded their research fields into colleges and universities gradually and provided numerous valuable directions for researches on college student affairs management as well as solutions that could be referred to and applied. However, the researches on college student affairs management are always isolated from management discipline and are short of analysis and study on the essence of management. As there are obvious bounds between management and college student affair management, student affairs management is still in a plight of insufficient systematic theoretical directions. Hence it is on the basis of such research backgrounds that this thesis develops its actual study and attempts to provide reference for converting the concepts on college student affairs management through the reconstruction of management concepts and management models.This thesis, based on researches on college student affairs management at home and abroad as well as the author's personal experiences as university educator, applies management theory to the research process and starts with the existing problems on the aspects of thought, system and means. After a step-by-step analysis through the guideline of "people's orientation", the core concept of modern management theory, this thesis obtains the intrinsic ideology reasons behind these problems, namely, an inadequacy of objective knowledge upon the socialization characteristics of contemporary college students, and accordingly summarizes the socialization characteristics of college students in college student affairs management as well as the contradictions and conflicts between the management subject and object caused by the cognitional deficiency.After searching out the root of the problems, this thesis takes "people-orientation", which is the commonality between the ethnics essence of modern management and the management target of college student affairs, as direction to guide the development of college student affairs management and attempts to provide concrete concepts and means for the establishment of a new college student affairs management model through the application of modern management theory.The whole thesis falls into six parts:Part one is definitions of relevant core concepts in the thesis and presentations of the objective basis and significance of the research; Part two is an analysis and illustration of the essence commonality between management and college student affairs management so as to establish logic origin for the research; Part three is an indication of existing problems of current college student affairs management in China; Part four is an in-depth analysis of reasons for current problems in China's college student affairs management; Part five is a correction of people's misunderstandings upon management and an establishment of the management's significant guiding values for China's college student affairs management; Part six a tentative exploration of the establishment of new concepts and new models in China's college student affairs management through the employment of management theory.
