Textbook is closely related to the development of education, and throughout the textbook we can find out that the definition of textbook can be divided into general sense and narrow sense. The general one means the materials that the teachers and students used to increase knowledge, develop skills and spread thoughts, while the narrow one refers to the textbook. Therefore, as the textbook is an important tool in the teaching activities, studying textbook is of special significance. During the process of elementary education reform, there is a new orientation to the course objectives—"knowledge and skill","process and method","emotional attitude and value","through teaching and all kinds of dynamic practice activities for music, foster the students'interests to music, develop music sense and the abilities of appreciating, expressing and creating, improve the cultural literacy for music, enrich the emotional experience and cultivate noble sentiments."That is, the new orientation focuses more on developing students'aesthetic appreciation, acting and creative ability. In 2002, the newly issued Full-time Compulsory Education Music Curriculum Standard (Experimental Draft) is the basis of compiling and estimating music textbook. It has corresponding changes compared with past Curriculum Standard from the aspects of course objectives, fundamental principles, course content and teaching methods and its drafting and issuing adapt to the requirements of comprehensive reform and development of current elementary education, predicting the fundamental music education stepping into a new era. According to this Curriculum Standard, People's Education Press, People's Music Publishing House, Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House, etc all published the music textbooks for the uses of different regions. The new textbook comprehensively reflects"centering on music appreciation; taking the hobbies and interests as the motivation; facing to the whole students; paying attention to personality development; valuing the music practice; encouraging music innovation; advocating integrated subjects; propagating folk music; comprehending multiculture; perfecting evaluation system."This paper adopts the research methods of combining the theoretical research and content analysis with the practical investigation, analyzes from the aspects of content, thematic unit, structuring frame of the textbook of People's Music Publishing House, explains the textbook's characteristics comprehensively and analyzes the principles and values for compiling the textbook, which provide certain references for the constructing and studying the music textbook.This paper is divided into seven parts: Chapter one is the introduction; chapter two is the development track of the primary school's music textbook; chapter three is the discourse to the new music curriculum standard and textbook; chapter four is the analysis of the content of the experimental draft of People's Music Publishing House; chapter five is the investigation and analysis to the performance of experimental textbook; chapter six is the suggestion and prospect to the textbook's future; chapter seven is the conclusion.
