Meaning-making In Career Planning

After the promulgation of"free education for normal students of the university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education (Trial)", the first batch of cost-free normal university students had signed tripartite agreement before pre-admission and registration in 2007. The recovery of free normal education in China has caused an extensive attention from both education researchers and the society at large. The cost-free normal university students have been waived tuition and are granted monthly subsidies. At the same time, they must perform the corresponding obligations: after graduation they are compulsory to teach in primary and secondary schools for a decade in the province where they come from, including teaching in rural area for two years.This thesis has studied the career planning of the first cohort of Government Expense normal university students who majoring in elementary school education. It has applied"meaning-making"of career planning as theoretical framework. It presents the definitions, focuses and impact factors of meaning making and its important role in classic career planning theory. From the perspective of meaning making, this study describes the roles of meaning making in free normal university student career planning, analyzes the impact factors, and finds out the existing problems in their career planning.
