Application Of Trados On EST Translation

The paper intends to introduce the application of computer-aided translation software represented by Trados on EST translation. Currently, most of technical documents are written in English. When people who do not know English would like to know such documents, they have to ask translators for help. However, as such documents are increasing in a tremendous speed, it is almost impossible to translate all of them in time, provided that translators carry out the task manually.Fortunately, the emergence of computer-aided translation software changed this awkward situation. Translation memory helps translators to store their translations, relieving them from dull routine work.Chapter one of this paper introduces the current situation of EST translation and computer-aided translation, pointing out that it is imperative for translators to utilize Trados. Chapter two analyze stylistic features of EST, concluding that EST is suitable for CAT software. Chapter three tells the difference and similarity of machine translation and computer translation, which are linked so closely that one’s development will definitely trigger a revolution of the other. Chapter four introduces components of Trados and translation flow utilizing Trados, analyzing advantages of Trados, pointing out disadvantages of it as well.
