On Translation Skills Of Long Sentences In EST

Long sentence, a common linguistic phenomenon in the English language, is often used in English for Science and Technology (EST) in particular. It usually causes people difficulty in understanding and translating. In order to overcome this difficulty, an analysis must, first of all, be made of the structure of a long sentence whose components have to be picked out and fully understood and which can then be translated into Chinese in accordance with the Chinese characteristics and ways of expression.This thesis studies the syntactic features of long sentences of EST, focuses the translation strategies and thus analyzes the practice and importance of translation of long sentences in EST. The last part mainly aims at the structure of long sentences; meanwhile, four new kinds of translation for EST are introduced in this part, which are named "syntactic linearity","inverted-order translation","division","methods of synthesis".
