In the translation of the popular science texts, one of the important aspects that determine the translation quality is the non-verbal factors, for example, professional knowledge and cultural factors. If the translator is not able to hand these factors well, the translation will not express the original meaning and even cause misunderstanding on profession and culture. While translating the Horizon Report2011, the author studied this aspect carefully and came up with the idea that translators must know how to cope with the non-verbal factors. Compared the original translation with the final translation, the author has sorted out those failed attempts and has worked out a solution to this trouble. While translating the words relating to professional knowledge, translators should choose the suitable understanding of the words and use skills to add or delete the translations. In the translating of texts concerning about culture, translators should study the logic system of Chinese and English and restructure sentences to deliver the original meaning to the fullest extent as well as reduce the cultural differences. Translators should also use other translation skills like adding note to help readers have a good reading experience.
