A Translation Project Report Of "Dali" And "Lijiang" In Travel Throughout Yunnan Province

With an increase in economy, tourism of Yunnan Province is flourishingprompted by the development of that at home and abroad. It is now a pillar industry.There is a rich supply of guidebooks and handbooks, whose translation, to a certaindegree, influences the growth of local tourism and the dissemination of its culture.This is a translation project report of parts about Dali and Lijiang in Travel aroundChina published by China Tourism Press. These two parts are an introduction of themain scenic spots in Dali and Lijiang of Yunnan Province.The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Part one is thetranslation project description, including project background, objectives andsignificance. Part two is the background of the source text, including the maincontents, structure and linguistic features the source text. Part three is about thetranslation functions, difficulties and methods. Part four concludes with the lessons,implication and unsolved problems in the translation project. As the report reveals, thesource text is a touristic one featuring by commercial elements, aesthetic perceptionof literature, advertising and cultural dissemination. Therefore, the translation isrequired to be in accordance with the stylistic writing features of the target languageand to cater to the readers. The structure of the Chinese original text should beadjusted to that of English by adopting flexible and various translation methods. It ishoped that this report offers some referential value for the translation of texts ofsimilar types.
