Higher vocational education has become an important part of Chinese higher education after the rapid development for ten years since1999when the CPC Central Committee and the State Council put forward to develop higher vocational education. Nowadays it shoulders the responsibility of developing plenty of the talents with high techniques and it faces huge challenges in the same time. As a result the issue of improving quality and competitiveness of higher vocational colleges has become the common focus of colleges and academic circle. Since the main customers of higher vocational colleges are their students, the survey of students’ satisfaction in learning is of great theoretical and practical significance to improve the service quality and competitiveness of higher vocational colleges.Based on the achievement of domestic and foreign research on customer satisfaction, a questionnaire of the students’satisfaction in learning for the students of higher vocational colleges are designed and an investigation into the four vocational colleges in Hunan Province are carried out in this paper combining the characteristics of Chinese higher vocational colleges. The main conclusions are as follows:First, the college students’ satisfaction in learning is not high. Among all the dimensions of students’ satisfaction, the lowest three is the campus environment and atmosphere, personal development and teachers’ professional quality. In addition, the lowest students’satisfaction is in the reputation of the school, the school ethos, campus culture, the professional employment prospect and capacity improving during the period of their study in colleges.Second, the first three dimensions of the highest satisfaction is basic establishment for learning and teaching, extracurricular activities and staff service consciousness, especially library books collection, teaching equipment, sports facilities, and activity fields generally get higher satisfaction in each of the four colleges.Third, it’s revealed in the survey that the higher vocational students regard the following three dimensions as the most important for higher vocational colleges:personal development, teachers’professional quality, school environment and ethos, which has nothing to do with the colleges and the places that the students come from but is related to the frequency in the first five dimensions. Among them the places where the students come is related to the degree of importance attached by the students to their personal development.Fourth, the loyalty index of the higher vocational students to their colleges is very low. But most students pay more attention to the development of their colleges and they are willing to do their best to make contributions to their colleges in the future if possible. On this basis, the author analyzes the reasons why the students’ satisfaction of higher vocational college in learning is low from the angle of pedagogy, management and psychology, and then puts forward some suggestions to improve the students’satisfaction in learning on the four aspects of the State, the higher vocational colleges, the society and the students themselves.
