Research On The Development Of The Faculty In Local Colleges

Since the reform of Higher Education in1999, significantachievements have been made in our country. Meanwhile, the quality ofHigher Education has been attracting more and more attention, since thequality of the teaching staff, executives of teaching activities, is directlyrelated to that of Higher Education. As for local colleges and universities,their construction of teaching staff mainly concerns issues of quality andquantity. The Teaching Assessment Scheme of UndergraduateEducation(Trial) states clearly the criteria of quantity and quality, basedon which this thesis will analyze and explore the structures of professiontitles, education background and age distribution.With the scale of local colleges and universities enlarged in recentyears, the number of teachers has increased, the quality of teaching staffpreliminarily improved, teachers’ social status and earnings graduallybeen enhanced, and made remarkable achievement in the process oftransforming from elite education to mass education. However, thereexist on various degrees some serious problems such as an apparently higher Student-Teacher ratio, age-fault teaching staff, inadequate teachertraining and personnel brain drain.This thesis tries to explore two aspects of career development andexternal environment of university teachers. It discusses problems of poororientation as well as lack of training, and present condition of teachers’needs and satisfaction to find out the problems and corresponding causesexisting in teaching staff construction in local colleges and universities.At last, it proposes detailed suggestions to improve teaching staffconstruction in local colleges and universities: recognizing the orientationof colleges and universities; following teachers’ needs, introducingteachers in proper ways, carrying out teaching training courses, attachingimportance to individual impetus and efficiently enhance the constructionof teaching staff.
