In recent years, with the rapid development of mass culture, campus culture andtherefore subject to impact. Along with the various extracurricular books flooded intothe campus,"popular literature" and "Chinese literacy" became a hot word inextracurricular reading. Not only will the popular books with characteristic of massculture produce certain negative effects to students, but also broaden their horizons,enrich their experience. The Chinese teachers should evaluate two sides ofextracurricular literature correctly, instead of blindly rejection, learn to using theguiding methods of the "take its essence and discard the dross". My paper is based onthe two sides of the extracurricular reading, analyses the characteristics and influence onthe junior high pupils objectively, to explore strategies to help students inextracurricular reading, so that the extracurricular reading can expand the effect ofChinese classroom, supplement the classroom reading..The thesis includes five parts: the first part is the introduction, analyses and combthe reason and the current research situation; the second part of the paper, express theconcept, theoretical basis, practical significance of extracurricular reading, popularliterature and language literacy; the third part, through the investigation analyze thecharacteristics of popular books and the reason of the extra-curricular’s prevalence inthe middle school; the fourth part, analyses and conclude the influence ofextracurricular literatures on junior high pupils; the fifth part, explore strategies toenhance the guiding between junior high school students and extra-curricular reading.
