Food has been taking an indispensable place in people’s life, with the change of people’s dietary structure, the food safety environment in modern society become more serious, the increasing number of people begin to pay attention to the importance of food. The "A Bite of China" is sensitive to these changes. With food as the main roles of the documentary, it reflects Chinese culture and traditions within the extensive and profound Chinese food culture. Besides these, the audience effects and the chain reaction it won has proved its successful status in Chinese documentary market. So far, however, the study of the documentary in China is very little. Therefore, this thesis choose the "A Bite of China" as the research object, then carries on the research systematically and deeply to make up for blanks.Based on the present research status, the thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a brief overview of the "A Bite of China", including the research significance, research status, etc. As the key sections of this article, Chapter2and chapter3take a text interpretation of it. The second chapter analysis it from the Angle of narrative and edit, it mainly studies the image-building of ordinary Chinese characters, family and collective in the by food in the film, and the food has already become the carrier of individual and collective memory here. Also, the theme from the real issues, with sincere and plain style, it expresses a distinct theme through fragment linking Starting from analyzing the lens performance method and the commentary characteristics in documentary, The third chapter mainly studies lens editing skills, lens documentary elements, lens modeling elements, and the expression of details. What’s more, it discusses the professional, vulgar and humane characteristics of its commentary. The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the value construction of the "A Bite of China", it mainly refers to the creator’s humanistic care which is revealed in the construction of cultural context and the process of showing original look and seeking national spirit.In combination with the other texts, this thesis uses esthetics, psychology and the other relating theories analyzes the text. The Study shows that the success of the "A Bite of China" has landmark significance and enlightenment under the background of thriving domestic documentary film development, and it also will bring far-reaching impact to the creation and development of domestic documentary film.
