According to the statistics, the translated text has9052words and230sentences, with39words in a sentence averagely. Obviously, the long sentences have a high proportion in the original text. The original text belongs to political discourse text, the characterization of which is the words are dignified, elegant, standardized and rigorous, and the sentences are much longer and more complex. Therefore, translators should carefully analyze and choose the correct and effective methods when dealing with long English sentences. The paper intends to explore the understanding and expression of the long sentences. In order to have a good understanding of the original long sentences, the paper explores the feature, types and structure of them. It is found to analyze the long sentences by three procedures. Firstly, distinguish the word and phrase meaning, and find out the trunk of the sentence; secondly, analyze and clear the relationship between the modifiers and modified words, the main clause and subordinate clauses; thirdly, sort out the sense group and get the Chinese meaning of the long sentence. While at translating stage, it will become easy to apply the following translation approaches:sequential translation; reverse translation; split translation and integrative translation approach.
