This thesis is the report on translation of chapter one and two of Run, written byAmerican author Ann Patchett, setting on Boston and Cambridge. This novel tells thestory of Bernard Doyle, an Irish Catholic Boston politician. He married, had one son,and adopted two more. The adopted kids are African-American brothers named Tipand Teddy. The first chapter tells the story of the statue while the second chapterfocuses on the conflict between father and sons. Teddy is interested in religion and Tipis committed to the study of fish while their father hopes that they can pay moreattention to the politics.This report consists of four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to thisproject, the author and the content of this novel. The second part is the translationtheories applied in the translation process. The third part is the solutions to thedifficulties that translator encountered in the translation process. To tackle with theproblems the translator used translation theories and skills such as conversion,omission, addition, syntactic reconstruction and annotations. The fourth part is theconclusion including the lessons that the translator gained from this translation project.Through this translation, the translator explores the translation skills applied in suchtexts.
