This is a translation project report of chapter1-3in Leap of Reason: Managing toOutcomes in an Era of Scarcity. The translated part, made up of more than10.000words, focuses on the theme of this monograph “managing to outcomes”. This reportfocuses on the translation difficulties and methods by analyzing the examples of theoriginal text and the target text.The report comprises four parts: Part one is the translation project description,including project background, objectives and significance. Part two is the background ofthe source text, including the main contents, structure and linguistic features the sourcetext. Part three is about the translation functions, difficulties and methods. Part fourconcludes with the lessons, implication and problems in the translation project. As thereport reveals, the original text belongs to the information-oriented text whichemphasizes the real world beyond the language. The principle of “truth comes first”should be adhered to in translating this kind of text. To present the whole contents andidea of the original text, the translator should not rigidly stick to the original language.The present author of this translation project adopted the communicative translationmethod which is reader-oriented and emphasizes social impact and value of the targettext.
