A Report On The Translation Of On The Rise Of The Corporate Legal Elite In The Brics: Implications For Global Governance

This is a translation project report of The Rise of the Corporate Legal Elite in the BRICS: Implication for Global Governance, an academic paper published on issue3, Volume54of The Boston University Law Review. The author, Professor David Wilkins, discussed the s’ contribution and impact on global governance through the analysis of the legal service market of globalization with the rise of the corporate legal elite in the BRICS as the breakthrough point. The author used Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a guide, and adopted translation strategies which focuse on logic and overall layout of the paper to accurately understand the meanings of the terms， thoroughly apprehend the whole text and seize the central main idea. By analysizing the overall structure and its planning, the author could make logic thinking layout and the translation clear and smooth.Considering the original paper’s language is rigorous, and has a lot of general words and special terms, the author mainly used some translation methods, such as literal translation and free translation; domestication and foreignization; amplification and omission; division and combination, sentence restructuring and long sentence split. In addition, when the author was working on this translation project, she has realized the difficulty to achieve “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” in translation. The author has also been aware of the great significance of the functional equivalence theory in guiding translation practices. As a translator, the author realized the difficulties in translating, and hopes that she can be encouraged by the saying “The road ahead is still long, and my climb will be steep”, keeping pursuit perfection and making progresses.
