Interest is the psychological tendency that individuals strive to recognize certainthings or engage in an activity,and the inner power that promotes people to seekknowledge and engage in activities.The study on geographic interest in learning hasalways been one of the topics of geography educators concern.In this study,it istrying to build on the basis of analyzing the status of junior high school students’sgeographic interest in learning and theoretical discussions,to propose the basicstrategy of stimulating and cultivating the junior high school students’s geographicinterest in learning,especially emphasize practical application in the classroomteaching.This topic has certain theoretical value and strong practical significance,andthe methods mainly used are literature, case studies and interviews withquestionnaires.The paper is divided into five parts:The first part primarily introduces the domestic and foreign research on learninginterest, and background,methods and distinguishing feature of this topic,particularlywith another perspective view of the geography classroom teaching from boththeoretical and practical level.The second part elaborates the meaning of learning interest, cultivatingsignificance and from the aspects of students and teachers, summarizes educationalpsychology research,and taking advantage of information processing learning theory,humanistic learning theory,STS educational theory and the discipline of physical andmental development about high school students,has had solid theoreticalforeshadowing for this paper.The third part involves the basic strategies of teaching process,such asintroduction problematization、content visualization、process mobilization;teachingsituation,primarily concerning harmonious atmosphere in the classroom、multi-wayuse of language;and classwork design,especially reading class、probing class and soon, looking for ideas and methods for cultivating geographic interest in learning.The fourth part is classified the main content,that involves in the survey ofstudents geographic interest in learning,selecting the first grade and the second gradestudents from bayi Junior Middle School in Urumqi who do questionnaires andtaking interview record with some teachers, parents and students;in theimplementation of the classroom teaching,discussing a few of typical chapters intextbooks in detail;and for data processing and analysis of the results, using Excel、SPSS software deal with the valid data and pointing out the deficiencies and defects.The last part of the paper are discussion and outlook.
