High school politics teaching has been confronting chances as well as challenges with thefurther development of economic, political, and cultural reforms in China. Case teaching playsan indispensable and critical role in the teaching of politics in Chinese high school as it has greatpractical value and is highly likely to get the learners involved. The approach of “What a caseteaching”is superior to other approaches of teaching because the cases employed are systematicand may well illustrate the target content of teaching. Easily arousing the students’ interest inlearning is another advantage of “What a case teaching”over other teaching methods. Nowadays,the approach of“What a case teaching”has been widely applicable in Chinese elementaryeducation. However, a great number of high school politics teachers in China has been foundpuzzled while adopting the approach of “What a case teaching”in their teaching. The presentstudy analyzed in detail the application of “What a case teaching”in high school politicsteaching based on the teaching practices of the author.This thesis consists of four parts. Theories relevant to “What a case teaching”werediscussed on the basis of reflection and examination of the author’s practices of teaching.Detailed analysis of the advantages and limitations of “What a case teaching”was providedtogether with strategies to cope with possible problems in its application.Chapter1focuses on the proposition and connotation of “What a case teaching”. Firstly,the theoretical and practical foundations of “What a case teaching” and the premise of itsimplementation were introduced. Then, the connotation of the teaching method of “What a caseteaching”was also defined on the basis of analysis of its application in the teaching of highschool politics in China.Chapter2concerns how to introduce the approach of “What a case teaching” into highschool politics teaching. The thesis illuminates the case selection, and discusses the designing ofquestions and the possible problems in implementation of“What a case teaching” on the basis ofthe author’s reflection and summery of her own practices.Chapter3is mainly about the advantages of applying “What a case teaching” in theteaching of politics in high school together with its potential problems. The author, as a highschool teacher of politics with eight years of teaching experience, summarized the strengths andweaknesses of “What a case teaching” and went further to analyze its advantages in detail. Yet, every coin has two sides. Despite the various advantages of “What a case teaching”, problemsalways come up in actual teaching practice, due to factors like the learning environment, lack ofunderstanding of “What a case teaching” by the students, etc. Therefore, potential problemswere also dissected based on the author’s teaching practice and previous studies on “What a caseteaching”. In Chapter4, some suggestions are provided for the possible problems concerning theimplementation of “What a case teaching” in high school politics classroom.
