The special education students of vocational schools are an important source of special education teachers in schools and institutions. With the rapid development of the special education in China, the requirements for the abilities of special education staff is becoming higher and higher. As vocational schools carry the duties of training special people with high-technical and skills or special education schools and institutions, paying attention to train students’ vocational abilities not only meets the needs of long-term development, but also the needs of developing students’ comprehensive quality and employment. In addition, it meets the needs of improving the survival ability of the students in the future.By taking Changsha Vocational and Technical College as an example and using the methods of Questionnaire survey and interview research, this paper models and quantizes the research of students’ vocational abilities and analyzes the related questions of special education majors systematically. And it mainly studies the intension and formation of students’ vocational abilities. According to the extent of the schools’ attention to vocational abilities, this paper analyzes the problems and reasons of training students’ vocational abilities from the understandings of vocational abilities, orientation of training students, building of course system, ways of training, teachers’ processions and security conditions. Combined with the requirements for vocational abilities of students in special education schools and institutions, it presents the effective path of cultivating of vocational abilities of special education students:accurate positioning the goals of training, widening the ways of cultivating, intensifying the key abilities of training, improving the percentage of "double-qualified teachers", increasing the security system, and gradually building the system of special education students vocational abilities, improving the training effects of students’ vocational abilities, promoting students’vocational abilities and students better employment and development steadily.
