The teachers’ professional competence is the important thing for students. And it is the key of the teachers’ professional development; it is also the objectives of the education reform. The minority areas of our western country have a harsh natural environment; and its economic development is not very good. As well as, its educational resources are very poor. Those phenomenons were taken places frequently in Dongxiang County, where the education level get behind, the teachers’ quality is not very high, and the full-time teachers are especially exile. In this area, many teachers have pluripoten post and an irrational structure. The language lessons play a basic role in numerous courses and the language teacher professional competence determines the level of educational quality.After investigation, there are many problems in the development of profession competence of language teachers in Dongxiang County Gansu province. And the main problems are: low professional competence of language teacher and wages; poor image of teaching profession and poor living conditions; irrational teaching structure. Based on the above issues, the language teacher professional development in minority areas should adopt the following measures: carrying out the targeted teaching actives; integrating the teaching resources to improve the irrational state of teacher structures; increasing the staff of bilingual teachers; investing more policy preferences and funds to change the teachers’ working and living environment. Through the above measures, we can change the professional understanding of language teachers and forming a professional development concept. Then, at last, the awareness and capacity of the language teachers in minority areas will be enhanced.
