This paper is based on "the COP Project of Teacher’s Online Practice In Community ", studying online instructors of teacher’s online practice in community. We construct the competency model of online instructors using the research methods such as research literature, questionnaire survey, behavioral event interview, content analysis and so on. According to that, we create a discriminating assessment index system for competency of online instructors and prove the effectiveness of that assessment index system by analyzing a real project case.The paper includes six chapters:The first chapter is about sources of the title and research significance. This part mainly introduces the background and significance of researching competency of online instructors;The second chapter is literature review. This chapter mainly introduces teacher’s online practice in community, online instructors, competency and competency model;The third chapter is research design. It includes the introduction of research frame, research ways and research process;The fourth chapter is about creating the competency model of online instructors. We find online instructors’ competency factors and create the competency model of online instructors by researching literature and interviewing behavioral event. Finally, we make online instructors’ competency factors questionnaire to do exploratory factor analysis on competency model of online instructors.The fifth chapter analyses the cases of discriminating assessment index for competency of online instructors. We determine the weight parameters of online instructors’ competency factors and create a discriminating assessment index system for competency of online instructors according to the competency model of online instructors and the results of online instructors’ competency factors questionnaire. Then we select online instructors of different levels to analyze and evaluate their competency level. Finally, we put forward measures to upgrade competency of online instructors according to the competency model of online instructors and combining analyzing literature and our practical experience.
