The development of Chinese cities has entered the medium-term phase of acceleratedurbanization. There are many problems such as urban land expansion rapidly, land inefficient use,land benefits imbalance, which human beings must confront. Balanced development betweensocio-economic benefits and eco-environment returns are required by social comprehensivecoordinated sustainable development and eco-civilization. Emphasis will be laid on a balancebetween high growth rate and good ecological returns and attaining fairly rapid growth by takingimproved economic returns as the precondition. Therefore, it has important practical significancethat study on evaluation of urban land use efficiency.Based on the theories of land use and land use efficiency evaluation, the author establishedthe index system of land use efficiency evaluation. Land use efficiency were evaluated during1996-2010in Wuhan City. And further study on the coupling between socio-economic benefitsand eco-environmental benefits and the coupling mechanism were carried out.Wuhan City is selected as researching region in this thesis. Based on the data of land use andsocio-economic development during1996-2010in Wuhan City, the evaluation weight system ofsocio-economic benefits and eco-environment benefits were established. At the same time, theauthor defined the weight of each indicator by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). On the basisof synthesis method, the author evaluated socio-economic efficiency and eco-environmentefficiency of land use from1996to2010. In order to determine the coordinated degree betweensocio-economic benefits and eco-environmental benefits systems, a coupling model about twosystems was built by the method of system science theory. Finally, used canonical correlationanalysis method, the author studied the couple driven mechanism between the socio-economic andecological environment benefits, and diagnosed the obstacles which stunted the development ofland use benefits system in Wuhan City.The result shows that land use socio-economic efficiency and eco-environment efficiency hadincreased during1996~2010in Wuhan City. The socio-economic efficiency undergone the processof low beginning, fast speed and large increases. While, the trend of eco-environment efficiencyshowed the process of high beginning, and the process of larger increases and steady fluctuationrise. The results of coupling degree showed that the trend of coupling degree was similar to alogarithmic curve from1996to2010in Wuhan. Differentiated from the interests of the earlyformation of incongruity to the intense game, after experienced relatively best coordination,gradually uncoordinated development and presents a new evolutionary feature. The canonicalcorrelation analysis on coupling mechanism diagnosis showed that socio-economic indicators suchas per acre GDP and relevant indicators, of road and hygiene are the main driving factors of landuse efficiency in Wuhan. At last, countermeasures and suggestions were proposed to promotebalanced development of socio-economic benefits and eco-environmental benefits.
