The source text of this translation report is from Behind The Beautiful Forever,whose author is Katherine Boo, a famous American investigative journalist and now astaff writer for the New Yorker Magazine. Behind the Beautiful Forevers is Boo’s firstbook. In order to finish the book, she lived in a slum of Mumbai for four years,observing people’s life there and then showing us a true India.This report is a comparison between two translation versions of Americannon-fiction Behind the Beautiful Forevers. The two versions used for the study are theauthor’s version and a version from Taiwan. The author adopted different translationskills and methods to analyze the two versions, illustrating a series of cases for detailanalysis.This translation report is composed of four parts. The first part is the forward, tomake a brief introduction of the whole project. The second part is to introduce thetranslation report from two perspectives, the original author and the source text. Thethird part is the major part of the report, to analyze the two versions with specificcases. The fourth part of this report elaborates on what the author learned from thewhole process, summarizing some reflection about translation as well as someshortcomings in the translation. |
