Both Life among the Chinese and Journeys in North China is written recorded after the foreign missionaries travelling to China. The original text language is narratives and discussion with stronger academic, including geography, history, population, diplomacy, climate and resources, is not only an objective window to know the history and society, but also full of literary history of precious historical materials.China plays an important role on the world stage now. There are large numbers of foreign materials describe the Chinese historical cultural phenomenon and introduce the social situation of China. Translation material is a typical Chinese subjects in English translation work, the aim is make the reader to understand the perceptions of foreign culture to own culture more intuitive and deeper, through the eyes of " others " looking at ourselves, reflecting on ourselves and promoting the cultural communication between different nationalities and cultures. So it has historical significance and literary value to translate the book into Chinese. The translation report includes six parts:text background, text language, translation theory, case analysis and summary. The case analysis is the core part of this report, which focuses on reflecting author’s translation thinking and translation methods, and combines with the original material to further clarify the translation strategies in the translation process. The author begins with the preparations before translation, NiDa’s functional equivalence theory as the support, word equivalence, and syntax equivalence, paragraphs equivalence, stylistic equivalence as the principle, the author uses literal translation, free translation, amplification and class shift to analyze the material. In the translation process, the author mainly adopts the method of literal translation to translate the text into Chinese accurately, which embodies the essence of Chinese culture, at the same time, by adopting the methods of free translation, amplification, class shift to analyze and translate the difficulties of vocabulary and syntax to make the translation work alive. Translation is a kind of re-creation, in order to make the version and original text the same, and retain the essence of the original, the author consults many parallel texts, CNKI literatures and dictionary as well as Baidu encyclopedia and other tools to facilitate translating and understanding. For all sorts of problems and difficulties in the translation process, the author also finds out the solution.Finally, the author concludes the unresolved problems in the process of translation and summarizes the experience during this translation practice. Through translating excerpts chapter from Life among the Chinese and Journeys in North China and writing the report, the author deeply realizes that translating needs solid basic skills and profound literary accomplishment, thus achieving the purpose to faithfully transfer Chinese culture information to foreign readers. The translation report is not the end; it tests the learning outcomes, and also finds my weaknesses timely, accumulating the experience for the future translation work.
