Red tourism is a special tour product of China. This form of tourism mainlyrefers to such tourist activities as visiting revolutionary history museum and memoryplaces, studying the revolutionary spirit, receiving the education of revolutionarytradition, relaxing, enriching experiences and so forth. In recent years, red tourismspots have attracted visitors at home and abroad. In these tourism spots, there are alarge number of publicity materials. Introductions to revolutionary sites as animportant publicity material including numerous revolutionary histories, persons andevents have become very essential to give foreign visitors a better understanding ofChinese culture.The red tourism spots of the Yeping Village in Ruijin County of Jiangxi Provinceare the national cultural relic protection units. With the support of the government, thered tourism of Ruijin County has developed rapidly. More and more tourists visit therevolutionary sites of the city for placing themselves in the beauty of therevolutionary history. English, as the most common language in the world, has beenused as a means of political and military interactions as well as trade contacts amongdifferent countries and as a means of culture and education communication as well asthe exchange of science and technology. Thus, the C-E translation of Introductions toRed Tourism Sites at the Yeping Village will be helpful to attract more foreigntourists.Lawrence Venuti is the first person to put forward the two translation strategiesof domestication and foreignization in his book The Translator’s Invisibility: AHistory of Translation (1995). Foreignization is an approach that the translator leavesthe author in peace, as much as possible, and moves the reader towards him, whileomestication is one that the translator leaves the reader in peace, as much as possible,and moves the author towards him. This thesis analyzes the two translation strategiesand specific translation methods used in the C-E translation of Introductions to RedTourism Sites at the Yeping Village and then presents the conclusion: The twostrategies are complementary mutually in the process of translation. Only using one strategy cannot treat all the problems in the C-E translation. The use of the twotranslation strategies and specific translation methods depends on different situations.
