This is an observational report on English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting with textsbased on the2013Global Education Exchange Promotion Forum, a simulated forum. Theinterpreting learners· performance was examined and analyzed from the following four aspects,namely, distributions of energy, grammar and logic of language, situations in which the speakermakes impromptu speech and the occasions when the speaker speaks with strong accent.Meanwhile, the author explored the problems found in the pre-preparation of interpreting,during the performance of interpreting and in the reflection of interpreting.Through case analysis, it is found that in the pre-preparation, the interpreters did inadequatepreparation in manuscript, mentality and equipment. During simultaneous interpreting, problemslike uneven distributions of energy, grammatical errors and unclear logic of language occurred.When the speaker made impromptu speech or when the speaker spoke with strong accent,interpreters demonstrated weak capacity to cope with these situations. To solveabove-mentioned problems, the author put forward the following countermeasures:1. theinterpreting learners should consolidate their interpreting expertise and cultivate theirprofessionalism, enhance their bilingual ability, anti-pressure ability, psychological adjustmentability, and on-the-spot response ability;2. MTI teaching units should offer courses such aslanguages and cultures, language logic, listening perception of English and public speaking.Meanwhile, MTI teaching units should improve their hardware facilities.This observation, to some extent, reflects the performance of simultaneous interpreting ofinterpreters in the programme of MTI at my Alma Mater. Thus, it is of some practical values. Itmay provide some practical reference for MTI teaching in my Alma Mater as well as other MTIteaching units.
