This paper is a reflective research report based on the translation of the first two chapters of To Become a Teacher. In this translation practice, with the “functional equivalence” as the main guiding theory, the author strives to reproduce the meaning and style of the source text by the flexible use of various translation strategies and techniques. In this report, according to the reflection on the translation practice, the author sums up the language and style features of the source text. Then, the author refers to the use of the translation strategies and methods to solve some major problems by using specific examples from the source text, such as translation of long sentences. Finally, the author summarizes her gains and shortcomings of the translation process and countermeasures for improving the translation competences. The author wishes to improve her translation abilities, deepen the cognition of translation theories and offer some beneficial help for other translators by writing this reflective research report.
