Science and technology is being widely popularized thanks to the ongoingmomentum of globalization. A growing number of scientific and technologicalexchanges as well as technological transfer bring more translation and interpretationtasks with technical relevance. Apart from necessary language skills and cross-culturalcommunications, translators and interpreters should be experts in specific technicalfields. They need to get themselves ready for this kind of task relying on theirlanguage skills and a lot of effort to cram for terminologies. This is a way to ensure asmooth process of interpreting. Under such circumstances, the interpreter will comeacross some phrases or sentences that are not totally comprehended. In consequence,the interpreter will find it hard to deliver the target language, so the Effort Model isaimed to find a good solution.The paper analyzes the application of the Effort Model through the technicalassistance project of Asia Development Bank, namely, Road Map for Carbon Captureand Storage Demonstration and Deployment-Component B. At the same time, it alsopoints out the suggestions to improve the quality of interpretation. The paper beginswith a brief introduction to the project. Then, it elaborates on the preparation and thecompletion of the interpretation project. This part is followed by the core componentof this paper, namely, the application of the Effort Model in the project. In the closing,the paper makes some conclusions and touches on the suggestions for improvementand points out a direction for future studies.By analyzing this interpretation project, it is discovered that the deliberateapplication of Effort Model is able to bring the following benefits: faster response tounfamiliar technical words, higher quality of interpreting production, and bettercoordination of interpreting effort. The application of Effort Model guides the authorto do the interpretation project by instructing the interpreter to distribute the effort andenergy throughout the whole process. The paper is intended to remind interpreters thatthe Effort Model is of critical importance for a smooth delivery and a high-qualityinterpretation. The aim is to advocate the application of Effort Model to technical interpretation events. The reason is that Effort Model is a very efficient way to reducethe pressure of interpreting.
