With the rapid development of China’s economy, more and more Chinese enterprises implement the “going out” strategy. Inevitably they will sign contracts with their counterparts to clearly define the rights and obligations, thus avoiding contract disputes, and guaranteeing successful execution of the contracts. In this regard, the importance of contract translation needs no further elaboration in these economic activities.China has been a major country for overseas projects construction. With “China’s High-speed Rail Diplomacy” promoted by Prime Minister Li Keqiang, Chinese enterprises is bound to undertake more overseas projects. Against this background, translation of Conditions of Contract for Construction should be high on the agenda.English contract translation is one of the important branches of legal translation. The thesis analyzes lexical, semantic and syntactical features of Conditions of Contract for Construction, chooses Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance to elaborate on the application of Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule by means of case study.Conditions of Contract for Construction features intensive use of formal words, archaic words, and doublets and triplets on lexical level, accurate expression on semantic level, and long sentences and nominalization on syntactical level. Typical cases illustrate that Skopos rule can be applied to make target text achieve communicative purpose, coherence rule to make target text readable and acceptable, and fidelity rule to make target text faithful to the source text during the E-C translation of Conditions of Contract for Construction. This thesis maintains that under the guidance of Skopos theory, several translation methods can be adopted during the E-C translation of Conditions of Contract for Construction, such as adoption of formal, adoption of archaic words, correct translation of technical terms, dividing and restructuring of long sentences, etc. It is hoped that this thesis can provide some constructive suggestions for the E-C translation of Conditions of Contract for Construction.
