| This paper focuses on the norms of trans-editing online auto news headlines and divides norms as value judgment criteria and operational linguistic patterns. The study conducts classification of auto news in the first place to lay the foundation for putting forward specific value criteria towards different news types. Then the study analyzes industry trends, media attitudes and readership to provide the basis for establishing the trans-editing value system. At last, the study analyzes the diversity in the self-built bilingual headline corpus, and concludes the value rules and patterns in the trans-editing process of auto news headlines. In this study, online auto news are classified into three types based on different functions, i.e. informative function dominated news, vocative function dominated news and entertainment function dominated news. This study holds that headlines of three types of auto news have different value criteria, and different patterns should be adopted to realize the values. This study is based on the author’s translation practice and investigation. The value criteria and linguistic patterns proposed by this study will hopefully provide practical guidance for auto news headline trans-editors and further improve the translation quality of auto news. |
