With the development of society, more and more people pay attention to environmental protection. In the field of geological engineering exploration,environmental protection concept has been quickly spread.China, however, still lags behind many other countries, especially some mining developed countries in the area of regional environmental protection. And the domestic engineering geological exploration industry mainly depends on the translation of the relevant research materials to get beneficial experience. Therefore, the amount of the geological texture translation is dramatically increased correspondingly. The local government of Hunan province has enriched itself by learning from the geological prospecting work in Bawdwin Mine and its adjacent areas. The original text, Geological Report on Bawdwin and Adjacent Areas, is a typical example.In the process of translation, the translator has chosen Peter · Newmark’s communicative translation theory as a guide. Newmark emphasized that communicative translation should center on the readers, pay attention to the reader’s possible reaction, and the reader’s ability of acceptance. Although all approaches of translation take translation as a communication to some extent, the "communicative translation" here is fully guided by the readers or recipient of the target language.According to the above mentioned approach, the translator is intended to convey information rather than copy a chain of language units and merely view the original forms of wording and phrasing as part of factors that the translator should consider in dealing with the original text. The translator concerns how to retain the original function and bring effect on new readers. And the translator has also realized that in the translation of such text, there would always find the following three issues: the processing of proper nouns, long and difficult sentences, and the integration of paragraphs. In order to ensure the translation conform to the language habits of the target readers and better deal with the problems in the translation, the translator has consulted many professional books on translation of geological English texts,combined with the actual needs of the reader groups, and repeatedly deliberated those specialized words or sentences beyond their original meanings, so as to ensure the translation is easy to understand and faithful to the original text.Based on the translation task of the Geological Report on Bawdwin and Adjacent Areas and according to her own experience drawn from translation practices, the translator has analyzed and summarized the translation methods and strategies of some typical words, sentences and passages in the original text, and furthur discussed some skills, theories and methods on the translation of geological English text.Combining with her own thoughts and experience harvested by this translation task,the translator expects that this report will provide some reference for translators in translating this kind of text.
