An Analysis Of The Interpreting Strategies Of Culture-Loaded Words At The Press Conference From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

Nowadays,with the strengthening of comprehensive national strength,China enhances communication and exchanges with foreign countries.The press conference of two sessions(National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference)is one of the most important platforms for communication with other countries and the interpreter of the press conference plays an important role.In the process of the interpretation,the form of language is just the medium while the content and sense are the essence.Thus understanding the sense of the information is the key to interpretation.Since culture-loaded words contain abundant cultural connotations,reflecting the customs,the way of thinking,the values and others of a certain nation or a country and developing with the times,the interpreting of these culture-loaded words brings great challenges to the interpreter.Thus,on the basis of the previous studies,the thesis will make an analysis of the interpreting strategies of the culture-loaded words at press conferences of two sessions in 2016 to 2018 from the perspective of interpretive theory.Through a thorough analysis,the author hopes that this thesis could provide some insights to the interpreting in this special domain.The interpretive theory was put forward by Seleskovitch and Lederer,representatives of Paris School.The main idea of the theory is that the interpreter should de-verbalize the source language form,grasp the sense and convey the sense to the target audience accurately.The research method of the thesis is a qualitative analysis based on the interpreting for Premier Li Keqiang's press conferences of two sessions in 2016 to 2018.The first part of the thesis is an introduction to background and significance.The second part is the literature review of the press conference interpretation and previous studies of culture-loaded words.The third part focuses on the introduction to the theoretical framework—Interpretive Theory.The next part is a case analysis of interpreting strategies of culture-loaded words at press conferences under the guidance of the interpretive theory.The thesis summarizes six interpreting strategies,which are literal interpreting,explanatory interpreting,contextual interpreting,corresponding interpreting,free interpreting and omission.Culture-loaded words are derived from national culture.Thus,the study of the interpreting strategies of culture-loaded words is of vital importance not only for the interpreting studies but also for the spread of Chinese culture.
