A Report On The Translation Of Computers And Translation: A Translator’s Guide(Chapter Five)

This report, which is based on the translation of Chapter Five “Localisation and translation” in Computers and Translation: A Translator’s Guide, aims to give a detailed description of the translation process and translation methods.After choosing the source text, the translator has made a lot of preparations for its translation, including reading the source text several times and acquiring background knowledge. The translation process includes preliminary translation, proofreading, revise and polish, and at last the ultimate version was decided, with functional theories of translation as theoretical reference, with literal translation as main translation strategy and free translation as a supplement.The whole report consists of task description, process description, case analysis and summary. Case analysis, which focuses on the presentation of translation ideas, is the core part of the practice analysis while the summary as the essential part of this report explains personal improvements and inspirations drawn from this translation practice and makes suggestions for future translation.By writing this report, the translator has not only improved her translation ability, but also learned basic operations and techniques of some computer-aided translation software. Now the translator has a better understanding of translation:a qualified translator should not only have high professional skills, but also keep up the learning of new translation technologies, like computer-aided translation all the time to keep pace with the times.
