Project Report On Translation Of 2015 BOC Conference Materials (Guangxi Section)

The translation materials of this project report come from the 2015 Bank of China SMEs’Cross-border Investment and Trade Conference held in the duration of the 12th China-ASEAN Expo.There are three reasons for the translator to select this project as report materials. First, this translation project is related to the translator’ major. Secondly, it is in line with the requirements of the translator’s programme. As a student of MTI, the translator should practice a lot. And this project brings the translator a good chance. At last, this project plays a communicative role in promoting the economic development of Guangxi because it helps promote these SMEs "going global" and accelerate the economical development of Guangxi in the future.The project mainly involves the translation of some SMEs’profiles in Guangxi. Besides, there is a small part of investment conditions of Guangxi. It is evident that the source text belongs to publicity text of company profile. However, most of the texts are about the objective introduction of enterprises’ businesses, products and the natural advantages in investment, and few of them about the expressive introduction. Therefore, the source text, in fact, is information-oriented text. According to the character of the original text, the translator adopts Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence to guide the translation process. In order to make the target readers (foreign businessmen cooperating with SMEs of Guangxi in the conference) understand the source text just as the original readers, the translator has restructured information of the source text according to the reading way of target readers’. The translator has adopted translation methods such as simplification, combination and changing order to present information precisely and briefly. There are some translation difficulties when the translator works, but the typical three are the translation of characteristic words, of Chinese four-character structures and of long sentences. These three problems are also the key research object in this report.Although there have been translation services for some enterprises’profile over the past Expos, it is the first time that this translation project, entrusted by Bank of China, is aimed to serve SMEs. These emerging enterprises have features that are different from the traditional ones in business model. However, there are few parallel texts about this aspect and the qualities of them are irregular. Therefore, this report, to some extent, can provide a feasibility reference for translating the similar style and category of texts.
