A Report On The Translation Of Cisco Switches In China: The Year Of Assurance

This is a translation project report on Cisco Switches in China:The Year of Assurance by Gerry Yemen and Lynn A. Isabella. Gerry Yemen is a senior researcher in the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Lynn A. Isabella is an Associate Professor of Business Administration. The source text in the translation report is a business case study, which describes the difficulties in the process of setting up Cisco Development and Research Centre and analyzes some solutions.During the translation process, the translator uses the text typology theory put forward by Perter Newmark as the guiding principle. On the basis of this theory, the translator applies various translation techniques in order to convey accurate information from the source text to the target text and give the target readers the same feeling as the source readers.The report consists of 6 parts. Chapter One is composed of the introduction to the project, the target of the project, the significance of the project, and the structure of the report. Chapter Two is the preparation for the translation including source text confirmation, preparation for the translation tools, translation theory introduction and a plan for the translation. Chapter Three is the process of understanding the source text, choosing the language style and organizing the translation. Chapter Four is about reviewing the translation. Chapter five analyzes typical cases that appeared in the translation process and explains how to solve the problems in the process of translation by using translation techniques. Chapter six summarizes the translator’s gains and experience during this translation process, and points out the aspects that need to be improved.
