The New Curriculum advocates this kind of mode: teacher-led,student-centered.Teachers should pay attention to each student’s emotions, create conditions for thedevelopment of each student,as well as stimulate the learning initiative of the studentsso that they will become masters of learning. In minority areas, high school students’self-learning ability in mathematics is not very good and they lacking of interest inlearning and motivation. They over rely on the teachers, and still used to acceptingknowledge passively. They haven’t formed the habit of thinking and solving problemsby themselves. They are not willing to study and there is no effective system to studymathematics. In classes, they are in the status of passively acceptance. In this paper, wewill systematically study this kind of phenomenon of high school students about theirself-learning of mathematics. The study will mainly be around the following: self-study,the meaning and features of self-learning ability; the factors that influence high schoolstudents’learning in minority autonomous regions; some suggestions of training highschool students in mathematics to obtain autonomous learning ability. In this paper, literature analysis, questionnaires and interviews and other researchmethods are used to investigate the students and math teachers of Guanghe County HighSchool. The questionnaires mainly concern five aspects: motivation of high schoolstudents in learning mathematics, learning awareness, learning methods, learningstrategies and self-evaluation. Results of the survey show that part of students ofGuanghe middle school lack self-learning ability and initiative in mathematicslearning. They haven’t formed the habit of thinking and solving problems by themselves. They are not willing to study and there is no effective system to study mathematics and.In classes, they are in the status of passively acceptance. According to the present statusof theoretical studies and self-study analysis of self-learning ability of high schoolstudents in minority areas in studying mathematics, combined with the characteristics ofhigh school students, the author of this paper explored some strategies about improvingthe ability of self-learning in mathematics as follows:cultivate students’ interest inlearning mathematics, stimulate students’ motivation to learn mathematics, enhance awareness ofmathematics learning, cultivate the students’ self-directed ability and fosterstudents’ self-learning habits; the teachers should create a relaxed and harmoniouslearning environment for students, improve teaching methods, explore new ways ofteaching, and cooperate with others;we should appeal social, family, and school toemphasis on students’ study. Finally, apply these strategies to teaching practice, togetherwith appropriate and reasonable measures,it will be more effective to foster students’autonomous learning ability.
