As we all know, English teaching is so difficult in rural areas of China that manyEnglish teachers always try their best to improve their teaching methods in order todevelop students’ ability of using English. In2003, we started to carry forward newcurriculum reforms in ordinary senior schools. Great changes have taken place inschool education. There appeared many famous teaching modes in China, such as DuLangkou mode, Yanzhou Recycle Class mode, Yangsi Middle School mode and so on.All of these modes have changed the traditional concepts of teaching. It is common totreat the students as the center of a class. At the same time, it becomes very importantto help the students to involve in autonomous study and cooperative study. Manyteachers are exploring how to realize teaching effectiveness, too. Since2010, acertain middle school of Zhaotong has begun to adopt a new English teaching modecalled “Effective Teaching Class” based on Du Langkou mode. But the teaching can’tbe copied, they should combine many new teaching concepts with their teachingreality to find out a better way that can improve their teaching quality. It has beenthree years since they carried out the new teaching mode in English teaching. Afterapplying the new teaching mode, we want to know if the students accepted it.Whether the teaching effect has been improved? What changes took place? Withthese issues in mind, the author carried out a specific research about teachers andstudents by using investigation, questionnaire and interview.According to the findings, the author expressed her own thinking and opinionsabout the use of the new English teaching mode, hoping to promote English teachingreform more effectively under the new curriculum reform. Especially in many seniorschools of rural area, it is very meaningful to find out the most effective measures toachieve the implementation of the new curriculum reform.
