The cultivation of English reading ability has always been the difficulty of primary school English teaching; teachers need to cultivate students’ reading abilities at the initial stages of students’ English study. However, English reading teaching in the lower grades of primary school exists great difficulties. Firstly,teachers are lacking of knowledge and practice guidance about how to carry out English reading teaching in lower grades effectively. Most teachers only pay attention to English vocabulary teaching, neglecting the cultivation of students’ reading interests, reading habits and reading abilities, which causes students’ weakness in English reading. Secondly, for students in lower grades, pure English text reading is too difficult. Subjected to the English vocabulary and grammar knowledge, it is not easy for students to have a pleasant emotional experience in the process of reading.With the introduction of English picture books in recent years, more and more educators realize that it can cultivate children’s English reading interest and ability, and its value in English reading teaching practice. More and more English reading practice about picture books reading have been carried out. However,reading teaching just emerging, how to convert these books into the available teaching and curriculum resources, combining with the characteristics of children’s body and mind to carry out the effective reading teaching is a problem worthy of study. Besides the domestic picture books reading teaching researchgroups are mostly aimed at pre-school children, for its application in the elementary school lower grade English reading teaching research remains to be strengthened. This research is to "primary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching practice" as the content, in the author’s K school as the object of investigation and research to carry out the practice research.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is introduction, introduces the basis of research, research purpose and research significance, research content and methods, related research status at home and abroad.The second chapter analyzes the concept and characteristics of English picture books; junior students English reading characteristics, and then explain English picture books in the role of primary school junior English reading teaching.The third chapter is the elementary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching design research, for English picture books reading teaching,English picture books reading teaching process and provide specific English picture books reading teaching evaluation method of design and operation.The fourth chapter is the elementary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching problems and suggestions for improvement, for the elementary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching practice, the problems were analyzed, and put forward the elementary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching Suggestions for improvement.The aim of this study is through a combination of theory and practice toexplore the effective implementation of the elementary school lower grade English picture books reading teaching strategies and methods. This research aims to offer teachers with some inspiration and reference in English reading teaching and also aims to enable English pictures books to become effective curriculum resources.
