A Study On Teacher’Professional Identity Of English-major Tuition-free Normal Students

In order to grasp the situation of tuition-free normal students’ teachers’ professional identity, this research taking English-major tuition free normal students in a normal university located in north eastern China as the research subjects and adopts the enrollment motivation as an entry point to explore their status quo of profession identification and also the impact of demographic factors and enrollment motivations on their teachers’ professional identity. This research adopts qualitative and quantitative methods using questionnaire and interview to explore the status quo and influencing factors from four dimensions of professional value, professional expectation, professional volition and professional efficacy. The results of the survey data are analyzed by SPSS.The results show that:(1) English-major tuition-free normal students have clear awareness of teachers’ professional identity, but some of them have not high degree on teachers’ professional identity, there’s some room for improvement;(2) The female students have higher teachers’ professional identity than the male students; the students who are not the only children in their families have higher professional identity than those who are the only children; the English-major tuition-free normal students living in countryside have higher teachers’ professional identity than the students living in towns.(3) Personal preferences have higher influence on teachers’ professional identity.To solve these problems the present study provides some relevant advice. For example, teachers in normal university should pay more attention to those English-major tuition-free normal students who are the male, only children, and living in towns, improve their teachers’ professional identity, strengthen their professional value, self-efficacy, cultivate firm professional volition. They should also spend more time on English-major tuition-free normal students who joined in English tuition-free normal university because of employment factors, others expectations and social motivations,correct their professional attitude and improve their professional identity.
