In order to educate and attract groups of outstanding university students to join the teaching profession in the central and western regions in China, Ministry of Education started to implement the free education policy for normal university students in the autumn of2007. It has been nearly7years since the start of the policy, whether the students can realize the expectations of the country is closely connected with their teachers’professional identity. So it is necessary to carry out the research on the current situation of students’teachers’ professional identity. Based on the literature review, the questionnaire and interview outlines are settled to collect useful data. After the analysis of the data collected by spss software, the researcher tries to show the current condition of those students’ teachers’professional identity.The study has achieved the following main results:(1) Overall the students’career identity is relatively high.(2) There exist differences in the level of career identity among the students of different genders and female students own higher career identity.(3) There exist differences in the level of career identity among different regions and the students from eastern China or the cities own higher career identity.(4) There exists no obvious difference in the level of career identity among students from different majors.(5) The students who have already found jobs also enjoy higher professional identity.(6) The reasons of choosing to become tuition-free normal university students, the satisfactory about the policies etc. all have influence on the career identity.Finally, the researcher tries to offer constructive suggestions from the three aspects including the government, the university and the students themselves to improve the current situation of professional identity.
