A Study On Rong Merchant And Fuzhou Education During Late Qing Dynasty And Beginning Of The Republic Of China

The social environment was changing after Modern China forced to open, Rong merchant in order to cope with the challenge, they were ongoing self adjustment and having many new changes. Especially in the late Qing and beginning of the Republic of China, Rong merchant produced a strong consciousness of social participation, they actively participated in local social affairs, and education was one of the important performances. The research contents of this paper include the background, motivation, activities, characteristics and the effects of Rong merchant’s participation in the Fuzhou education. Through the analysis, it is helpful to understand Rong merchant’s role and status in Fuzhou education modernization. At the same time, I hope to enrich and add a brick to modern Rong merchant study via our research.
