China is the kingdom of prose. Chinese prose has a long history, and achieved rich results. Breadth of prose, including essays, letters, speeches, essays and other forms; including writing, narrative, lyrical these types. The prose of narrow sense points written in beautiful concise language person, narrative, lyrical articles. Refers to the modern and contemporary prose essays, following a "May 4th" new culture movement, which is a kind of novel, poetry, drama and a literary genre. Modern and contemporary prose with rich lyric mean and beautiful language were liked by people. Due to the modem and contemporary prose drawn wide and beautiful language, ideas, sincere emotions, in shaping the students’ good mind, promote the all-round development of students play an important role, so high school language teaching material compilation of a large number of modern and contemporary prose.In the actual teaching process, however, because the students lack of study method of prose and the ability of personalized reading text, and teachers in the teaching process not based on the text and learning, teachers ignored the subjectivity of students learning, the prose teaching there are still many deficiencies, teachers’ teaching and students’ learning are not satisfactory.This study tries to from the characteristics of modem and contemporary prose and classification, the requirement of the language new curriculum standard, teaching material text, and the status quo of modem and contemporary prose teaching were discussed, And by cultivating students’ ability of autonomous learning and brings students personalized interpretation to the dominant position of students in learning, put forward some teaching strategies, such as the establishment situation, intoned recitation, stimulate students interest in prose study. According to the characteristics of the prose, fully experience the beauty of mining of modem and contemporary prose to change the present situation of the current high school modem and contemporary prose teaching.
