This is a translation project report on Translation Zones in Modern China: Authoritarian Command Versus Gift Exchange by BonnieS. McDougall, of which Chapter 4 Foreign Language Press—Translation as Process is the source text. The selected chapter describes translation process in the Foreign Languages Press, and implies the defeats of translation mode in ‘authoritarian command' by introducing different sections in FLP. Based on the characteristics of informative text and on the principles of thick translation, this report focuses on studying annotations both in the source text and in the translated text, discovering the methods for adding notes. After analyzing the necessity and significance of annotation, conclusions on the definition, classification, reasons and methods of annotation have been drawn.
