Big Data Analytics: Disruptive Technologies for Changing the Game authored by Dr. Arvind Sathi is a content-focused text with seven chapters. The book is written to provide certain professional information for the readers with relevant interests. Grasping general ideas of Big Data as much as possible is the main purpose of Chinese readers. With the language barrier, the information passed to Chinese readers is relatively limited. A good translation is very helpful. In order to be helpful, the translation must be readable and understandable for Chinese readers so as to comprehend the information of the source text. The report is based on the translation of parts of the first three chapters of the book which covers the trend of Big Data analytics, the characteristics, the contributing factors and the applications. The translation is guided by Skopos theory and the main translation method adopted in the translation is free translation. Skopos theory is the core of the German functional translation theory and it emphasizes on the purpose of translation. Three classical principles of Skopos theory are skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Twenty six translation cases are analyzed, summarized and reflected based on the initial translations and the revisions under the guidance of Skopos theory. The report is mainly about the problems during the translation process and how they were dealt with.
