An Interpreting Practice Report Of The World History,Episode 68&69

With the development of globalization, the contact around the world is getting closer,and people's spiritual and cultural demand also increases with each passing day. As the the form of traditional film and television, the documentary has attracted people's attention in recent years. This paper is an interpreting report according to the interpreting practice of episode 68 called The Rise and Fall of British Empire and episode 69 called The Rise of America from a large history documentary made by CCTV called The World History. The interpreter takes these two episodes as the interpreting material, and practices in the way of Chinese to English consecutive interpretation. Through the analysis of the conversion using in interpreting practice, the paper emphasizes the importance of conversion, and provides a reference to interpreters and learners as well.The paper is divided into three parts which are introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part is introduction. It mainly introduces the necessity of the documentary interpretation, the characteristics and significance of the chosen material, and the importance of conversion in interpretation.The second part is the main body. The main body is divided into three chapters.Chapter One mainly introduces the interpretation task, including the background of documentary interpretation, the content of chosen material, the purpose of the interpreting report.Chapter Two focuses on the interpreting process including the preparation for interpretation,the way of interpreting and a summary of the interpreting practice. And it emphasizes the importance of the preparation for interpreting.Chapter Three is a case study to classify the usage of conversion in interpreting. It consists the conversion of parts of speech and voice between Chinese and English.Through the comprehensive analysis of the cases,it shows the usage of conversion clearly in interpreting practice.The third part is the conclusion. It concludes the application of conversion in Chinese to English interpretation and emphasizes the importance of conversion.Meanwhile the paper summaries the excellence and deficiency in interpreting practice.And the interpreter hopes that this paper can provide other interpreters and learners with a helpful reference of interpreting skills.
