The Task-based teaching approach assigns the teaching content in the form of the task to the learners,which combines language learning and language uses,advocate learners learning and using language in the process of finishing the task so-called‘learning by doing'‘learning by using'.Learners mobilize the existing target language resources to complete the task,in order to achieve the purpose of ‘learning and mastering language'.In the process of completing the task,teacher designs the task,encourages students to participate in the task and provides the appropriate help to the students who have difficulties on the demand of learners.Bring Task-based teaching approach to the class can arouse the students' initiative to participate in the in-class activity,obtain knowledge in a pleasant classroom atmosphere by giving full play to the ability of independent learning,and thereby achieve a sense of accomplishment,gain the motivation to continue to learn Chinese and to research Chinese culture.Zodiac is a very important part of traditional Chinese culture,which is closely linked with every Chinese life and is a unique symbol of people.In teaching Chinese as a second language,foreign learners can know their own zodiac,understand the characteristics of the people with different zodiacs,master the similarities and differences of zodiac animals in different countries by the spread of Chinese zodiac culture.Thus it can be seen that the teaching of Chinese zodiac culture is very necessary.This paper makes teaching design by investigating the foreign learners' understanding of the Chinese zodiac culture with the content of the zodiac culture.Aim to design a culture course that can make learners take part in the class actively and learn knowledge independently in the way of ‘combining Task-based teaching approach with zodiac culture teaching'.This paper will be structured in five chapters and a conclusion.The first chapter introduces the background of the topic,research meaning,research content and research approaches.Then summarizes and analyzes the previous research results,which including the research summaries of Task-based teaching approach at home and abroad and Chinese zodiac culture teaching.The second chapter analyzes the feasibility of Task-based teaching approach in Chinese zodiac culture teaching of teaching Chinese as a second language class from the point of Chinese zodiac culture teaching content and Task-based teaching approach's advantages,which includes that summarizes the generation year,origin,selection,matching and cultural symbolic meaning of zodiac culture,and then explains the reason why choose 12 as the quantity of the zodiac,the illustration of the relevant theoretical knowledge(e.g.,its definition,function,teaching principles)of Task-based teaching approach and its own advantages.The third chapter surveys foreign teachers & students of Northeast Yucai School International Division and part of foreign teachers of Sunbo Foreign Language School,analyzes the mastery of the Chinese zodiac culture by foreign learners.The fourth chapter designs a totally process of Chinese zodiac culture teaching that based on Task-based teaching approach,including the pre-class design,class implementation and after-school reflection.The fifth chapter shows the case and the concrete implementation process of Chinese zodiac culture teaching.The conclusion part summarizes the contents of this paper,the advantages and disadvantages of bringing Task-based teaching approach to Chinese zodiac culture teaching.
