A Translation Report On Emotions In Contemporary TV Series(Chapter One)

With the development of global economy,people have a relatively rich material life,However,their spiritual life is comparatively poor,because they are lack of emotional communication.Therefore,people have been seeking different ways to make up this loss of emotions.As an entertainment for contemporary people,TV series and films perhaps are the most common choice for people to relieve their loneness and enrich their spiritual life,since the emotions produced in the contemporary TV series can have some resonances with our own emotions.Hence,studies on emotions in the contemporary TV series may help us know more about emotions and the relationship between the emotions produced in TV series and our own emotions,and then we can make connections between these emotions.In doing so,people may solve their problems of emotional deficient better.In western countries,studies on emotions in contemporary TV series are rich and extensive,however,relevant studies and translation version on emotions are few and deficient in China.Therefore,it is necessary to translate relevant texts or books of emotions in contemporary TV series of English version into Chinese version.The source text is selected from the book Emotions in Contemporary TV Series,which is about 15,000 English words and edited by Alberto N.Garcia,University of Navarra,Spain.The translation report which is based on the translation practice mainly consists of four chapters.The first chapter focuses on the introduction of the translation project from the following aspects:background,theoretical foundation,purpose and significance.Chapter two makes a brief introduction to the author,content and the linguistic features of the source text.Chapter three speaks of the process of this translation project.The difficulties and translation techniques encountered and adopted in the process of translating are mentioned and analyzed by means of case studies in this part.It is the most important part of this report.Guided by Skopo's theory and considering the features of the original text,some specific translation techniques,such as linear translation,inversion and division,have also been applied into practice.Chapter four mainly summarizes the acquired experience and lessons and the problems.It is hoped that the Chinese readers can know more about emotions and also some theoretical and general approaches to study them,and also the rendering may provide more information and reference for the relevant people to study emotions in the contemporary TV series.Through the translation practice,on one hand,the translator accumulated the relevant translation experiences and had a better understanding of some theories and translation techniques.On the other hand,readers can acquire more information of emotions from the translation.Meanwhile,the rendering can also provide a reference for domestic studies on emotions.Definitely,there are still some shortages in this translation report,for example,the language of this report is not quite formal and the quality of the translation should be further improved.What's more,the translation comment should be more academic.The translator will be further perfected the translation report.
