A Report On Translation Of The Oxford History Of Literary Translation In English Volume 4(Section 1-3,Chapter 1)

British literature has always been quite representative in the world literature.After a long-term and complicated evolution,the diversified development of English literature has always demonstrated its unique charm.At the same time,as the communication between countries becomes more and more frequent and the scope of coverage is more and more extensive,literature,as a medium,plays a vital role in cultural communication,and the translation of literary works is also attached importance too.This translation report is based on the translation of an excerpt from The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English.This book is mainly based on narrative,and the original author used authentic language to introduce the development of translating works and translations in various countries from the 18 th century to the 19 th century,as well as some discussions and studies on some issues related to translation.Therefore,in the process of translation,we mainly analyze the translation of long sentences,complex sentences and difficult sentences,look for the internal logical relationship between sentences,and study the translation of difficult words,and improve the quality of translation under the guidance of Peter Newmark's translation theory so as to accurately convey the idea of the original works.The translation of this volume of books is completed by a team,and the author's translation includes the preface of the book and the first three sections of the first chapter.This translation report is divided into five parts.The first part mainly describes the background,purpose and significance of this translation practice report.The second part mainly talks about the preparatory work done by the author before translating the selected part of the book.The third part focuses on the guiding theory used by the author in the process of translation,which provides the theoretical basis for the follow-up case analysis and ensures the reliability of the case analysis.The fourth part is the core part of the whole translation report.This chapter is divided into three sections,which mainly analyzes some difficult points in the process of translation in detail.The author makes case analysis mainly from the lexical level,the syntactic level and the textual level.In the first part of this chapter,the author divides the case analysis of vocabulary into three sections,and investigates the translation of words from three aspects: the translation of personal names,the translation of adjectives and the translation of verbs.For the second part of this chapter,the author divides the case analysis of sentences into four sections,which includes the translation of complex sentences,the translation of passive sentences,the translation of long sentences and the translation of rhetorical sentences.And for the case analysis on the textual level,the author mainly illustrates with examples from the cohesion and coherence of the original text.Through analyzing the quality of the translation,it finds the shortcomings of its own translation and strives for high-quality translation,providing a reliable reference to the researchers.
